TransportWise Case StudySecurity Services Provider in UK implements Asset Tracking serviceChallenge: One of the main providers of security monitoring services in the UK, faces a new challenge, i.e. the ability to implement a cost-effective asset tracking service. The asset tracking system needs to be supplied as a closed control room s/w, with the ability to ‘publish’ information (including maps displaying the location of assets) to mobile devices via gprs connection. This enables the customer to give temporary system access to the police, to enable them chase and capture the people who have stolen valuable assets. Because some of the enterprise assets for which the company needs to provide a tracking and recovery services are normally fixed assets, the asset tracking system provides the functionality of geofences. This will allow alerts to be triggered only when assets - that aren’t support to move from their location - have moved. Similarly, when valuable assets are taken from point A to point B following a predefined route, the system must alert an operator if the route taken by the vehicle has deviated. This allows the necessary actions to be taken to ensure that the assets are recovered in case they have been stolen. Solution: Creativity Software’s TransportWise solution is chosen, as it provides all the functionality that has been requested. TransportWise has been architecturally designed to offer its functionality either as a control room s/w, through a web interface or via a GPRS client (from a mobile internet-enabled device). Access to information from a web-based interface or a mobile device can be defined by the administrator, so it can give temporary access to a user (Publish function) as required. The location positioning methods used by TransportWise are both Cell-Id and GPS, making it ideal for security service providers, as both methods complement each other. (For example, stolen assets are often put inside vehicles or locations from which it is not possible to obtain GPS coordinates) The geofences that can be defined by TransportWise include Radial (central point defined plus a radius), Polygon (for complex shaped sites such as airports), Route Deviation (following a predefined route on a map) and Co-Proximity (in case two vehicles or assets have reached the threshold of proximity to each other). A GPS device handler on the TransportWise s/w architecture also allows the use of virtually any GPS device on the market, giving flexibility to security and other service providers to plug-in any tracking device that might be required. |
