There are many situations in which the availability of location information can assist personal emergencies. EmergencyWise, from Creativity Software, is a new application which delivers location information to designated recipients. If the user of the service is incapacitated or suffers an accident, their location can be broadcast as a priority message to their chosen buddies.

EmergencyWise provides a way for MNOs to address individual safety and to offer a simple but effective application to complement existing services. Available as a cost-effective enhancement, EmergencyWise offers a variety of configuration options for optimal deployment.

EmergencyWise uses a wide range of channels to ensure delivery of location data to the designated recipients. These can include SMS, MMS or WAP push, ensuring unrestricted availability of the service across any handset device. This can be particularly important for ensuring that all nominated recipients can be reached. The service can be tailored for different segments and demographic groups, such as the elderly, providing a simple alert system which can complement other services offered.

EmergencyWise can also be offered to enterprises wishing to support “lone worker protection” services. In this case, GPS support can be added.

EmergencyWise - How it works

Fully configurable without handset restriction, users of the EmergencyWise service register target numbers to which emergency alerts can be sent. This can be achieved via a simple SMS, WAP or via a web interface. To activate the service, the user simply presses and holds a key on their mobile for a period of three seconds. This action is registered by the system, which then sends a message to the intended recipients. The message can be in the form of an SMS, MMS or WAP alert.

The message contains the address of the current location of the user, which may also be combined with a WAP or web link including a map of the position. Additional content, such as the location of the nearest police station together with its telephone number can also be supplied. This allows the recipients to plan the most effective response.

For enterprise versions of the service, such as “lone worker protection”, GPS handsets can be utilised for tracking purposes, but all available handsets can be used as required. This can help manage enterprise costs, ensuring availability of the service to all users.
