In a home zone offer, mobile subscribers typically pay reduced rates when using their mobiles within a defined area. This is usually their home, but it could also be another zone, such as an office.
Creativity Software’s ZoneWise solution gives MNOs the ability to establish differential charging rates according to the location of a mobile subscriber. This means that the MNO can make it more attractive to use the mobile device (stimulating increased call minutes) than competing devices such as fixed line options.
The solution can be offered in two versions:

ZoneWise services leverage the location of a user to define “geo-fences”, enabling MNOs to offer selective tariffs according to the location of subscribers. Location positioning equipment is used to obtain the position of the subscriber. If the user is within the defined geo-fence, the specific tariff can be applied.
Users can select favourite zones in which to receive discounted calling rates when placing and receiving calls. Additional discounts, for example for calling friends in neighbouring zones, can also be applied.
It is also possible to add alerts, so that users can be notified of changing charging rates as they move through or enter predefined charging zones, allowing them to choose when to place or receive calls. Additionally, time of day or date based charging can be offered to further customise services.
In mature markets, this can help ensure that call minutes remain on the MNO network and are not lost to rivals. Additionally, the zone-based services can become important differentiators, helping to reduce churn and attract new customers.
In emerging markets with low fixed-line penetration, MNOs can offer “virtual fixed line” services as a version of the core zone offer. In this case, subscribers can be given a fixed line number which is directed to their normal mobile handset within the boundary defined by their zone.
